Mustafa Kuleli
Vice-President of the European Federation of Journalists
Mustafa Kuleli is the vice president of the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ). He has held various roles in journalism, including reporter, editor, writer, presenter, and television programmer for outlets such as Duvar, Diken, NTV, IMC TV, TV8, Hayat TV, and Evrensel. Following the Gezi protests in 2013, Kuleli was elected as the general secretary of the Journalists’ Union of Turkey (TGS), becoming the youngest union leader in Turkey at age 28. He revitalized the TGS, making it more appealing to young journalists and reestablishing its image. Under his leadership, the union secured new collective agreements in multiple media outlets, advancing fair working conditions and press freedom. In February 2014, Kuleli was physically attacked, though the incident went unprosecuted. In 2019, he was elected to the EFJ board with the highest number of votes and has served as its vice president since 2022.
